Day One-Introduction

So, you will all have to be patient with me, as I do have lots of pics to add to my posts, but with a housefull of sick kids, getting this blog up and running has been more difficult than I thought it would be.  Hopefully they will be back among the land of the living soon, and this will actually turn into a semi-intelligent sounding blog.  For now, well, it's a start.

It's been since January that we turned over our new leaf so to speak, and began avoiding all fast food and supermarket "fast food" for dinner and lunches.  As a working parent, it was just so easy to fall into that trap, even though I love to cook and had my own catering company for awhile.  But after a long day of work, school for the kids, homework, housework, meetings, other events, the thought of standing over the stove for an hour or so making dinner at 5:30 or 6:00 every night was certainly not the most appealing of ideas.  In fact, at times root canal seemed preferrable.  It was so easy to simply pop thru the drive-thru lane, run into the store for some "healthy" chicken from the deli and some quick sides.  I mean, I always had a veggie on hand to go with it, so it was all okay, right??  You can all answer togther now..."UM, NO".  Yep, that's right, we were relying so much on those type of foods during the week that my oldest, who once refused to eat mashed potatoes unless they were made from scratch, started to prefer the box variety over the real thing.  That is when I knew, we had a problem.

So, I made a decision-we were not going to eat any of that anymore...no fast food, no convenience store food.  If the girls wanted chicken nuggets and fries, we made them at home, pizza - no problem, we'd do that too.  I mean, really, how hard could it be, right?  Ok, so it was a little harder than I thought it would be especially on days when I was exhausted, or sick or just plain old didn't feel like cooking,  But so far, we have remained on track (with a few exceptions...hey, we're human-lol) and not only are we saving money and trips to the store, but my girls are back to enjoying eating homemade food over store-bought or fast food, and are actually coming up with their own recipes to try.  Heck, yesterday, Belle (my youngest) made homemade butter which is seriously the best better ever!!

So, why am I sharing this with the world?  Um, well really I have no idea-LOL.  I guess it helps me too...because I can look back at my posts to remember ideas and recipes we have tried, liked, enjoyed as a family, and keep track of what we've done.  In doing so, maybe it can give inspiration to someone else, who in turn can share and inspire me, others, well, you get the idea...the whole Circle of Life and all that!
